Presenting “From Can’t to Can Do!” at MINT

by Margaret Jarrell

I recently spent two days in Dallas at the Montessori Institute of North Texas presenting our two-day introductory workshop to Montessori for Aging and Dementia. The workshop was attended by Montessori educators and trainers, loved ones of people living with dementia, as well as healthcare and longterm care professionals.

The introductory workshop covers person-centered care, an introduction to the Montessori philosophy for children, and a deep dive into how the Montessori approach is used with elders and people living with dementia. We write sample meaningful engagement plans and practice using hands-on materials, just as we would with elders. The workshop also covers dementia-care best practices, such as using effective communication techniques, preventing and responding to responsive behaviors, environmental design, and so much more.

Thank you to the amazing staff of MINT for being such wonderful hosts!
